SEATTLE, Wash. (AP) — President Trump has called an anti-malaria drug a “game changer” in the treatment of COVID-19.

A UW researcher says it COULD be, but has yet to be proven.

Ruanne Barnabas, an associate professor of global health at the University of Washington, is leading a study of hydroxychloroquine.

She says it could keep someone who’s been exposed to the virus from becoming ill.

Two thousand people are involved in the study and researchers could see results in as little as 8 weeks.
