OLYMPIA, Wash. — The COVID-19 pandemic has affected our shopping habits, but the Washington Department of Health says there are a couple of things we don’t need to do.

While washing your hands is essential, the DOH advises that there is no reason to try to disinfect your groceries or put disinfecting chemicals on food you’re going to eat.

The DOH says that there is no evidence that COVID-19 is spread through food, whether it be takeout orders, groceries or produce.

There’s also no need to stock up on groceries to avoid shortages.

Deliveries to grocery stores are continuing steadily and food suppliers are producing plenty to meet the need.

The DOH does recommend using grocery delivery services or limiting grocery shopping to one trip a week to avoid exposure.
