OLYMPIA, Wash. — With schools closed due to the coronavirus, many high school seniors have questions about graduation.
Now, the state has an answer.
At a special board meeting Wednesday, the State Board of Education adopted emergency rules that allow school districts to apply for greater flexibility in awarding diplomas to the class of 2020.
The new rules allow districts approved by the board to waive certain state graduation requirements for individual students.
To be approved, districts must make a good faith effort to give students opportunities to complete the credits through distance learning.
