BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Smoke from wildfires negatively impacted Whatcom County air quality, but there is some good news.

Bellingham tied for seventh place among the cleanest cities in the nation for year-round particle pollution in the American Lung Association’s annual “State of the Air” report, proving that the area generally enjoys good air quality throughout the year.

When it comes to 24-hour pollution, our region scores much lower.

Whatcom County air quality received an “F” and Skagit County a “D” for 24-hour particle pollution which the Northwest Clean Air Agency says is tied directly to wildfire smoke.
