Food insecurity is a growing problem around the world, including in Whatcom County. Sustainable Connections’ program, Squatch Food Waste, aims to address that issue and works with suppliers and restaurants to take their surplus food and bring it to those who need it. To support their program, Sustainable Connections will be holding a cooler drive at their location near downtown Bellingham on Wednesday, April 29, between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Sustainable Connection’s Mark Peterson joins Tessa on the KGMI Afternoon News to provide some details on what items they are accepting during the drive, how they are working to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during their efforts, and alternative ways you can support them.
