BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 jumped dramatically in Whatcom County last week, but the number of deaths has been revised down.
The Whatcom County Health Department reports there were 29 confirmed cases from Sunday to Saturday.
That’s up from just 12 the week before.
The department says reasons for the increase are unclear, but one possibility is stepped up testing.
Disease investigators also found many of the new cases are in clusters of people who’ve been in close contact.
The total number of deaths in Whatcom County has been reduced from 28 to 27 after one was determined to have been caused by something other that COVID-19.
