BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A long-term care facility in Bellingham is one of three in the region opening a dedicated COVID-19 unit.
In the coming weeks, a total of 135 beds will be available at Avamere Transitional Care of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Richmond Beach Rehab in Shoreline, and Avamere Bellingham Health Care and Rehab in Bellingham in order to house residents recovering from the virus while preventing its spread to other residents.
According to DSHS, the COVID-only wings will be separated from the rest of the facilities and they will have their own entrances and dedicated staff.
DSHS says they are in discussions with several more long-term care facilities throughout the state about opening COVID-19 units.
