A Bellingham man has been sentenced to more than 30 years in prison for a man’s murder and assaults on two other people in a random spree of violence.
Court documents show 35-year-old Jesse Rene Reyes pleaded guilty Tuesday in Whatcom Superior Court to First Degree Murder and other charges stemming from the attacks on October 6th, 2018.
Prosecutors say Reyes punched an 18-year-old woman at a restaurant on Lakeway, then beat a 50-year-old man near Carl Cozier Elementary School.
He then encountered 71-year-old Donald Alderson on his bike on a trail near Whatcom Creek and stabbed him to death.
Members of Donald Alderson’s family and the two other victims spoke to the court before sentencing and described how Reyes’ crimes had disrupted their lives.
