BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Whatcom County’s bus system secured millions of dollars in federal funding for their COVID-19 response.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration announced Friday an $8.8-million grant for the Whatcom Transportation Authority as part of the CARES Act signed by President Trump in late March.
WTA will use the funds to support bus transit operations, including maintenance of transit buses and bus facilities and paying for worker salaries, personal protective equipment, and other related expenses during the public health emergency.
