BELLINGHAM, Wash. – While many businesses face an uncertain future, music venues are especially in jeopardy.

Craig Jewell, co-owner of Bellingham’s Wild Buffalo, says they rely on packed houses to be successful, and they mostly book touring artists who have now cancelled appearances well into next year.

And he says world class groups like Bellingham’s ODESZA get their start in clubs like his.

He says they’re working with Senator Patty Murray and other lawmakers to get government funding to help keep music venues afloat until they can re-open.

Some venues have had to close permanently.

In March, the Firefly Lounge closed their doors with the intention of eventually reopening after coronavirus related restrictions were lifted.

The venue said on Facebook they now face an uncertain future and the time has come for them to close their doors permanently.

The venue on State Street was established in 2018 when the owners took over The Green Frog.
