WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – An injured bald eagle is recovering after it was found near southbound I-5 in Blaine.

State Trooper Heather Axtman says a person called 911 at about 7:30 a.m. Friday to report the eagle near the Truck Crossing interchange.

She says it may have been hit by a vehicle while trying to feast on a possum that was found dead in the right lane.

Two troopers, a Blaine officer and a Fish and Wildlife agent were able to capture the eagle and transport it to the Whatcom Humane Society.
