BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Thousands gathered at Maritime Heritage Park in Bellingham Saturday for a Peaceful Solidarity Rally.

Speakers from many segments of the community spoke including Lummi Nation Council Member Nick Lewis and Whatcom County Executive Satpal Sidhu.

Speaker Diedre Smith had a powerful message, saying “so if there is any white supremacists out here, I want y’all to know I ain’t got nothing against you. I love you with the love of Jesus Christ. I just hope you find it in your heart to change. And I hope if I did anything you think I did to make you feel like that then it’s time that you accept my apology because I want us to move onward and upward from this point on.”

Some talked about the importance of voting and others told their personal experience with racial inequality.

And the speakers called on the crowd to continue to push for real change following the police killing of George Floyd and other high profile killings of unarmed black people around the country.
