SEATTLE, Wash. – Police say a man is in custody after he drove a car at George Floyd protesters in Seattle Sunday night, hit a barricade then got out while brandishing a pistol.
The Seattle Fire Department says a 27-year-old male was shot and taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Video taken by a reporter for The Seattle Times showed part of the scene in the city’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, where hundreds of demonstrators have gathered for days near a police precinct.
On Saturday night, police used flash bang devices and pepper spray to disperse protesters in the same area.
The Seattle mayor temporarily banned the police use of tear gas as protests continue in the city and nationally over the killing of George Floyd.
Mayor Jenny Durkan said in a news conference Friday afternoon that the ban would continue for 30 days.
The move came hours after three civilian police watchdog groups urged city leaders to do so after hearing concerns about using the gas for crowd control purposes earlier last week.
