TACOMA, Wash. – Tacoma’s mayor is calling for the firing of four officers involved in the death of a man who was restrained while being arrested in early March.

33-year-old Manuel Ellis’ death was ruled a homicide by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office who determined the cause of death to be lack of oxygen due to physical restraint.

Mayor Woodards said the officers who committed this crime should be fired and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Monday morning the state Attorney General’s office was granted joint jurisdiction with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department to conduct an investigation
