SNOHOMISH, Wash. – Police Chief Keith Rogers has been reassigned after he made comments about armed vigilantes that were in the city on May 31.

Snohomish city leaders say Rogers was demoted to lieutenant after referring to a hundred armed vigilantes who gathered in Snohomish as a “festive night of tailgating and celebratory pleasantries.”

Among those gathered included a man waving a Confederate flag and people flaunting patches of a hate group’s coded insignia who said they were there to protect boutiques from alleged looting threats.

Rogers received public backlash for his comments calling for his resignation.
