SEATTLE, Wash. – Digitally altered photos of the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone were removed off the Fox News website.
Friday, June 12th, Fox’s website featured a photo of a man with a military style rifle in front of what appears to be a smashed retail storefront as a part of their coverage of the protests in Capitol Hill.
Another image combined the gunman photo with a different photo making it appear as though he was standing in front of a sign declaring “You are now entering Free Cap Hill”
The Seattle Times reports there were no disclaimers on how the images were manipulated and that photojournalism experts are calling it a clear violation of ethical standards for news organizations.
Fox has since removed the photos and apologized saying they “did not clearly delineate” the splicing together of multiple images from different locations.
