ROCKPORT, Wash. – A portion of the North Cascades Highway is still closed due to a series of rockslides.
Rock removal and hillside stabilization on highway 20 near Rockport will begin on Monday.
The DOT expects repairs to take at least a month and a detour will remain in place until the work is complete.
Initial evaluations by geotechnical engineers show the slope above the highway is unstable and crews will be required to remove overhanging trees and rocks before reinforcing the slope with dowels to hold rock in place.
