BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Construction is underway on a new homeless shelter in downtown Bellingham.
The Lighthouse Mission Ministries drop-in center has been approved to move from their current temporary facility at Bellingham High School to a new temporary location in the former Public Market building on Cornwall Avenue.
The City of Bellingham says the new location will allow for social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The drop-in center will remain in the building until the end of the public health emergency declared by the state, county, and city.
To remain there after the emergency, LMM must obtain a permit, which will require public input and an option to appeal.
