FERNDALE, Wash. – A Blaine man was killed and a young Ferndale driver was injured in a wrong-way crash on I-5 between Slater and Axton Roads Wednesday evening.
State Troopers say 73-year-old David B. Johnson of Blaine, a passenger in a car driven by 75-year old Gary Johnson of Graham, died at the scene.
Gary Johnson was driving southbound in the northbound lanes just after 8 p.m. when he ran head-on into a car driven by 18-year-old Ilia Castrjeon of Ferndale.
Both drivers were injured and taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.
The freeway was blocked for several hours.
