SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — A 4th of July parade is planned in Sedro-Woolley.

Some fear it’s a pushback against people of color in response to recent Black Lives Matter protests.

That’s spurred talk of a counter protest and lots of back and forth on social media, some of which has been threatening.

But Sedro-Woolley Police Chief Lin Tucker says he’s talked with organizers of both events.

He says he and his officers will be at the event to keep everyone safe and help people with differing views communicate.

Sedro-Woolley’s mayor has also released a statement urging respect and awareness of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Freedom Protest begins at 10am Saturday.
