BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A suspect is in jail after a car prowl turned violent.

Bellingham Police Lieutenant Claudia Murphy says a resident on East North Street was alerted by his security system last Saturday night and armed himself to investigate.

He found a man standing next to his neighbor’s car and saw his own vehicle had been broken into.

The resident ordered the man to stay put but he approached him with outstretched arms.

The resident fired a warning shot but the man attacked him and may have been trying to turn the gun on the owner when officers arrived.

They found Jesse Hill nearby and arrested him after a struggle.
