BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Western Washington University is expressing satisfaction that the Trump administration has reversed a new rule that would have kicked out foreign students enrolled in online-only classes.
Western Provost Brent Carbajal had called the order issued last week by Homeland Security “misguided and cruel,” especially during the uncertainty of the pandemic.
But he says in a statement posted that the university is very pleased with the reversal and will continue to support its international students.
Governor Jay Inslee also applauded the administration’s move.
The Homeland Security Department rescinded the new rule as it faced eight federal lawsuits and opposition from hundreds of colleges and universities.
