OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Hot, dry conditions have prompted a burn ban on DNR land throughout Washington.
Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz says the statewide order went into effect Tuesday and will remain in effect through September 30 unless fire conditions improve.
The ban covers all 12 million acres of public and private forestland under the Washington State Department of Natural resources’ fire protection.
Burning charcoal briquettes is banned but recreational campfires are allowed in approved fire pits in designated campgrounds.
The announcement comes after a spike in wildfires over the weekend.
Franz says four large fires are currently burning in Washington, the largest of which is near Wenatchee.
