LYNDEN, Wash. – The coronavirus pandemic has been too much for the Lynden YMCA and it won’t re-open.
Whatcom Family YMCA Director Bill Ziels says the Lynden Y has run at a deficit for the last several years and the shutdown has made it impossible to recover financially.
He says the make the decision with “profound sadness” after serving the Lynden community for 40 years.
He hopes they can still offer some of the Y’s programs and services when restrictions are lifted, even if they don’t have a central location.
And he says the city may explore ways to lease the facility to another operator.
