WHATCOM COUNTY, Wa. – The state marked seven new Whatcom County coronavirus infections for Wednesday, the latest day reported.
In the past week, there has been one hospitalization and no deaths from COVID-19 in the county.
69 of the 85 Whatcom County COVID-19 hospitalizations to date have been for persons aged 40 and up.
The County’s 7-day rolling new positive test average has dropped to four per day, from a high of 16 in late June.
Some good news about coronavirus infection rates statewide.
The Washington State Department of Health says infections appear to be plateauing across the state.
The rate of the number of new people that are being infected by COVID-19 patients is hovering around one in almost all counties, except for Spokane which is on the rise again.
The goal is to get that number well below one, but the department says masking and a pause in re-opening is having a positive effect.
But Health Secretary John Wiesman warns that we can’t let our guard down as a plateau doesn’t mean we have the pandemic under control.
