FERNDALE, Wash. — More Whatcom County workers are left jobless thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Ferndale School District has announced that they will lay off bus drivers in their transportation department effective September 1st as students will not be relying on bus service while schools are closed because of the pandemic.
The district says that because they receive funding from the state based on ridership, they had to make cuts.
Superintendent Dr. Linda Quinn says they see these as temporary layoffs, not permanent ones.
