YAKIMA, Wash. — A fast-growing wildfire near Yakima has so far destroyed 5 homes.
It’s the greatest loss of property to fire in Yakima County in nearly five years.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports the fire more than doubled in size Tuesday night because of high winds, and stood at 12,900 acres Wednesday morning with 0% containment.
Regional Northwest incident management team spokesperson Roland Emetaz says increasing winds, along with plenty of dry fuels and hot weather, could create difficult conditions.
The fire started Monday afternoon about eight miles northwest of Naches and its cause is still unknown.
