BLAINE, Wash. — The Blaine Police Department is warning of an email scam exploiting the coronavirus.
The department says a phishing email uses the subject line “URGENT INFORMATION LETTER: COVID-19 NEW APPROVED VACCINES” and inside urges you to download an attachment to view the letter.
If you do download and open this file, it will infect your device with malicious software designed to gather data such as usernames, passwords, and other sensitive information.
They remind you never to download an attachment from an email that you were not expecting and to watch for sensational words, like “urgent,” that are designed to get you to panic and click without thinking.
