BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Local cities are implementing burn bans to address the threat of wildfires.

Outdoor fires within the Bellingham city limits are prohibited until further notice.

The City has implemented a recreational fire ban effective immediately for all fires burning solid wood, including open-air campfires and fires in fire pits or outdoor fireplaces.

Propane and natural gas firepits and barbecues as well as charcoal barbecues are still allowed.

Ferndale has moved to a Level 2 fire ban that prohibits all outdoor burning within the city limits.

Violations there can result in criminal charges and a minimum fine of $250.
