OLYMPIA, Wash. — The state Department of Natural Resources says many of the recent wildfires have been caused by human activity.
But Communications Manager Janet Pierce says fires aren’t the only damage people are doing to public lands.
She says people are going out to the woods that normally wouldn’t, and the land can’t take the abuse its getting right now.
She says people have been leaving litter and waste behind along with being careless with fire, and hikers are parking illegally around overcrowded trailheads.
The department asks that people report problems on public lands, especially any type of fire danger.
