BLAINE, Wash. — Frequent cross-border weddings in Peace Arch Park are sparking concern amid COVID-19.

The Canadian side of the park was closed in June, but Canadians are still entering the U.S. side without going through a border crossing.

Park Ranger Rick Blank said the park is seeing anywhere from 10 to 20 weddings weekly, along with birthday parties, anniversaries and other large family gatherings.

Blank says rangers have been talking to people about Washington’s rules, but they are not following the guidelines.

So far, Blank has not heard of any cases of cross-border transmission linked to gatherings in the park.
