SEATTLE, Wash. — You’re not imagining things if your ears are feeling “ear-itated” in these smoky conditions.
UW Medicine Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor Albert Merati says people are contacting them with a wide range of complaints — dry or itchy throat, pain in the throat and nasal congestion.
Merati says he expects to see an increase in ear infections or irritation in the middle ear over the next few weeks.
He says that’s because our ears are connected to our respiratory system.
He recommends protecting your ears the same way you would your nose, throat and lungs: stay inside if you can, use and air purifier and drink lots of water.
