BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Move In for the new school year will be different for Western Washington University amid the pandemic.

A sharply reduced number of students will move in over five days next week (9/21-9/25) rather than on the traditional Move In Day.

School officials have been watching difficulties other colleges and universities have had with COVID outbreaks and are taking precautions.

Assistant Professor of Public Health Steve Bennett says a survey shows that most young adults follow health guidelines in public.

But peer pressure is a factor when they’re interacting with friends.

Student government communications director Hunter Stuehm says students are leading the messaging on campus.

Students will be tested for coronavirus when they arrive the school has a regular testing regime in place.

Western has set aside space for isolation and quarantine for students who may test positive.
