BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Prepare for some traffic impacts along Birch Bay Drive this week.

The work that was postponed last week due to stormy weather is rescheduled for this week (week of the 28th), taking place from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Crews will be installing stormwater catch basins along the western side of Birch Bay Drive, along with some other work on the western side of the road.

Whatcom County Public Works says some work may involve installing pipes across the road with ramps that will allow drivers to pass over them.

They ask travelers to drive slowly and advise pedestrians to avoid the site entirely.

A few other traffic impacts due to planned roadwork around the county this week:

Some work to improve improve pedestrian and bicycle safety at the busy intersection at Bakerview and Northwest starts this week, with flaggers present; expect delays on that one.

Mosquito Lake Road’s bridge over the Middle Fork of the Nooksack River will be closed intermittently for normally planned inspection this afternoon, and during the day tomorrow and Wednesday with the exception of noon-12:30.

The annual dry dock maintenance of the Whatcom Chief, disrupting the Lummi Island Ferry continues, but Public Works says it is ahead of schedule.
