BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Two important debates are scheduled tonight, and you can hear them both on KGMI.

Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee is seeking a third term in next month’s election, something the state hasn’t seen an incumbent governor do in more than 40 years.

He faces Republican Loren Culp, police chief of the small town of Republic, in the Nov. 3 election.

The last three-term governor in Washington was Republican Gov. Dan Evans, who served from 1965 until 1977.

Ballots will be sent to the state’s 4.6 million voters next week, and elections officials are expecting record turnout.

The first and only debate between Inslee and Culp will be held tonight and due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the candidates will participate in the televised debate from separate rooms at the Olympia headquarters of TVW, the state’s government affairs channel.

This will be after Vice President Mike Pence and Democrat Kamala Harris meet on the debate stage for the first and only time tonight night in Utah.

With President Donald Trump recovering from the coronavirus and his Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, trying to become the oldest president in U.S. history, the stakes are arguably higher than for a typical VP debate.

You can hear both debates starting at 6 tonight on KGMI, News/Talk 7-90, 96.5 FM, and KGMI.com, or on your Alexa smart speaker; just say “Alexa, play KGMI.”
