BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Local officials are warning of seriously stormy weather today.

A small craft advisory is in effect between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. and then a gale watch will extend through the rest of the evening.

A vigorous frontal system will bring strong winds and big waves to the area while strong onshore flow will keep winds and seas high over the weekend.

According to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, the coastal areas that are likely to have the strongest winds include Lummi Island, the Lummi Peninsula, Sandy Point, Cherry Point, Drayton Harbor and Point Roberts.

Wind could cause downed trees and power outages.
