WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Don’t panic if you hear tsunami sirens sounding in Whatcom County on Thursday, and don’t call 911.

John Gargett with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management says they’ll be testing the Emergency Alert System during a statewide earthquake drill, called the Great Washington ShakeOut.

The earthquake drill will start at 10:15 am and the tsunami alert will be issued simultaneously.

All coastal tsunami sirens in the state will be activated using the real wailing sound of the siren for about two minutes.

Whatcom County has sirens in Blaine, Birch Bay, the Lummi Nation, Point Roberts, Sandy Point and the Port of Bellingham.
