BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Outside agencies are now involved investigating a shooting that occurred in Bellingham Monday that involved the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s deputies followed up on a tip regarding a suspect in the recent homicide of 41-year-old Clinton E. Gulick, who was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds near Mosquito Lake Road Sunday morning.

That led them to 34-year-old Zachary S. Ranahan who was at an apartment complex in the 3100 block of Maplewood Avenue.

Shortly after deputies arrived, Ranahan fled on foot.

Deputies tracked him to nearby brush where they fired shots before taking him into custody.

No bullets struck the suspect.

The Skagit Multiple Agency Response Team has launched an investigation into what happened.
