BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Western Washington University students will not be heading back to campus anytime soon.

The university has decided to move forward with a Winter Quarter with about the same levels of face-to-face instructions and campus residency levels as Fall Quarter.

Officials say that’s because COVID-19 case counts are not yet decreasing in Washington, which means it is still dangerous to bring additional students back for in-person learning.

But a few in-person classes will resume, including some labs and performance-based classes.

Western will test the few returning students for the virus after the holiday break, quickly quarantining those who test positive in an effort to reduce the risk of an outbreak.
