OLYMPIA, Wash. — A portion of Whatcom County has been highlighted in the DNR’s 2020 Forest Action Plan.
The plan outlines more than 100 priority actions to improve and conserve forests across the state, including goals that support rural economies, clean water, and more.
An area in the Nooksack River watershed is one of 16 western Washington areas listed as a priority area with the greatest opportunities for forest investments.
Landscapes on the San Juan Islands will also be prioritized.
The department says these priority areas are where state and federal resources will be deployed first to increase forest resilience.
