SEATTLE, Wash. — It does not appear that the “vote Washington” website investigated by federal cybersecurity officials this week was developed with bad intentions.
The unofficial website gained popularity on social media in recent days, which spurred an investigation led by the Secretary of State’s office.
KIRO reports two Whatcom County residents who describe themselves as “computer nerds,” created the popular interactive site votewashington.info to give voters access to information about vote processing.
The office said Thursday federal officials identified and met with the developers who told them the site was not created for nefarious purposes, and confirmed the site used publicly available data.
