OLYMPIA, Wash. — Governor Jay Inslee held a news conference Tuesday to announce a new state Secretary of Health and to restate the need for increased restrictions he announced on Sunday.
He says there’s been an explosion of new coronavirus infections across the state.
Inslee says the state has set aside $50 million to aid small businesses impacted by the new restrictions and details on how it will be distributed will be available later this week.
He announced that Dr. Umair Shah, the top health official in Houston, Texas will take over as Washington’s health secretary in January.
He replaces Dr. John Wiesman who’s stepping down to take a teaching position.
