MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A Friday night 9-1-1 call from a woman who said she had driven a car into the Skagit River led to the discovery of a young Mount Vernon woman’s body.

KIRO reports first responders received the call just before 10pm and police confirmed a vehicle was in the river when they arrived at the scene.

Rescuers suspended the search for the victim at 1am Saturday due to hazardous conditions posed by the river and darkness.

The vehicle was found Saturday morning with a juvenile inside about 300 yards down river from the Edgewater boat ramp.

Authorities said they believe she was the original 9-1-1 caller and police do not suspect foul play.

Police believe the victim was 15-year-old Taylor Nicole Bentley, a student in the Mount Vernon School District.

An investigation is ongoing.
