PENTINCTON, B.C. — DNA profiling identified human remains found in the Salish Sea more than a decade ago.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police issued a release Monday confirming the remains belonged to a 55-year-old Canadian man named James Neufeld who disappeared in January 2009, last seen leaving his home in Pentincton, B.C.
His remains were pulled from waters near Orcas Island in May 2009, but officials could not ID them at the time.
This September, another attempt to establish a DNA profile was successful and an international, multi-agency cooperation was able to positively identify the remains.
The victim’s family has been notified.
