VAL D’ISERE, France — A World Cup Skier with local ties made her first appearances on the podium with two third place downhill finishes over the weekend.

Breezy Johnson is a former WWU student from Idaho who became the first U.S. woman other than Mikaela Shiffrin and Lindsey Vonn to make consecutive World Cup podiums in eight years in this year’s event in Val d’Isere, France.

She has persevered through significant leg injuries in each of the last three years.

Johnson told NBC sports that after injury, she is just trying to seize the moment.

Her given name was Breanna but was legally changed to Breezy after she took up skiing at age 3.
