CUSTER, Wash. — The derailment and fire of an oil train prompted the evacuation of Custer Tuesday afternoon.
The train carried Bakken crude oil which is know for its volatility.
Sheriff Bill Elfo says multiple agencies responded to fight the fire, including personnel from the Phillips 66 and BP refineries who used foam to dampen the flames.
He says the investigation is already underway and includes state authorities the F.B.I.
Custer residents were evacuated and then asked to shelter in place when they returned home.
There were no injuries.
