BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Homeless campers have ignored an order to move 25 feet away from Bellingham’s City Hall.
The city had imposed a deadline of Friday but protesters blocked the area and harassed journalists and others.
KGMI’s Joe Teehan had equipment stolen and damaged as he tried to document what was happening.
Doug Gustafson leads the homeless advocacy group HomesNOW! and says protesters threatened to destroy his video camera.
Mayor Seth Fleetwood says in a statement that protesters and outside agitators who are not campers have escalated the situation but the city will not be the aggressor in any confrontations.
A stand-off remains but Fleetwood says the situation is untenable.
