BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A local man who gained notoriety by electrifying Trump yard signs after vandals stole them repeatedly during the 2016 election campaign was on the scene at City Hall yesterday.
Ray Gilbride has been documenting activity at the encampment since it began in early November and was there when the action began.
He said it was a quiet morning until about 7:30 when police and city employees came out of City Hall and started dismantling some of the structures.
Many had left by mid-morning but a strident group of protesters had arrived by that time and chanted as they held up a row of pallets between them and officers in riot gear.
A steady stream of vehicles continued shuttling tents and other belongings away through the day,
The encampment has been in place since early November and the city had ordered the campers to disperse by Friday at 4 p.m. but moved to evict them early.
