BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Local homeless shelters say they still have beds available to those who need them.
The City of Bellingham cleared a tent encampment occupying the lawn surrounding City Hall and the Central Library, sending its homeless population to find shelter elsewhere.
Lighthouse Mission Ministries Executive Director Hans Erchinger-Davis says the number of residents at their shelters in Bellingham have gone up, but they still aren’t at capacity.
He says the doors at the Base Camp shelter located at 1530 Cornwall Avenue are “wide open” and that as of Thursday, they had 71 beds available at Base Camp and the Overflow Shelter at the former Drop-In Center located in Old Town.
They encourage guests to walk in to set up an appointment with Base Camp staff.
