Neighbors react as Civic Athletic Complex tent camp grows

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Neighbors are reacting as the homeless tent camp at Civic Athletic Complex in Bellingham grows.

Bellingham Bay Gymnastics owner Jill Wolfson told KING5 the employees there became increasingly alarmed as dozens of tents and makeshift houses have gone up.

She said that people are just starting to trust and come back and the camp could be the thing that closes them down.

Britany Moncur works across the street from the new camp and said crime was already increasing in the neighborhood, adding that it just doesn’t seem safe anymore.

Bellingham Mayor Seth Fleetwood called the camp illegal in a statement.
